Hen House Market Fresh "Oven Ready" Turkeys

It’s a Kansas City Tradition

Thank you for buying our Hen House oven ready fresh turkey. We have put together some answers to some questions that our customers have asked.

Can I order an exact size of turkey?
Hen House turkeys are delivered directly from local turkey farmers right up until the last few days before the holiday, so that we are able to offer to our customers the FRESHEST turkey available. A word from our farmers, “ The turkeys will vary within two to three pounds, from expected weight, by the time they are processed.” Example of this is, if you order a 20 pound turkey please expect an 18 - 22 pound turkey.

What size turkey should I order?
Whole Turkey 1 lb. To 1 ½ lb. Per person
Turkey Breast ¾ lb. Per person

How do I store the turkey once I get home?
Turkeys are very perishable. If you are not cooking the turkey until later, we recommend that you remove the turkey from the plastic bag, put it in the refrigerator and put a damp cloth on top of the turkey. Before cooking, remove the giblets from the turkey and rinse inside and outside with cold water. Pat dry with a paper towel.

How long do I cook the turkey?
20 minutes per pound of turkey.

What temperature should I cook the turkey on?
325 degrees.

Will the turkey come with giblets?
Yes.

How long can I keep a fresh turkey before freezing or cooking?
48 to 72 hours (two to three days)

We welcome any other questions you might have.

Happy Holidays from Hen House Market
