Roses
The rose has always been valued for its beauty and has a long history of symbolism. The ancient Greeks and Romans identified the rose with their goddesses of love referred to as Aphrodite and Venus. The rose is the national flower of England and the United States.
There are currently thousands of varieties of roses developed for bloom shape, size, and fragrance and even for lack of prickles.
Simple Rose Care
Roses are a beautiful, yet temperamental flower, but if cared for properly they will give you long lasting pleasure! Follow the steps below to care for your roses.
- Fill a clean vase with fresh, cool water. Add flower food packet according to packet instructions. Plant food provides flowers with the nutrients and chemical they need to extend their life and kill bacteria. Remove leaves from the bottom of the stems so no leaves are under water in the vase.
- Cut at least 1/2 inch off each stem. Be sure to make the cut at an angle so stems that are touching the container can still draw water.
- Every couple of days, remove flowers from the vase, empty the water and wash the container; this will help prolong the life of your roses.
- Repeat the above steps to ensure your flowers will last as long as possible.

** It is important to keep roses in a cool area out of direct sunlight.
