In 1923, Mollie & Sidney Ball opened their first store. Although they offered all of the basic necessities even back then, in 1942 Mollie began the tradition of offering something more, something different.

Mollie realized even then the value of a home cooked meal and tried to provide that convenience to her customers.  Becasue of World War II, newly-employed mothers and wives were struggling to find the time to make dinner for their families. Mollie provided take-home meatloaf dinners that soon became famous throughout the neighborhood.
