A partnership between the twelve locally owned and operated Hen House stores, Good Natured Family Farms, and Bridging the Gap has been formed to bring focus and attention to the quality of food produced by local farmers. The Buy Fresh/Buy Local campaign focuses on bringing the best of products grown and produced by local family farms in and around the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.

This focus is important to the partnership and the customers of Hen House Markets because it affords the local consumer the access to:

  • Fresh foods - grown close to Kansas City and therefore have spent far less time in a warehouse or being transported across the globe.
  • Taste Better - grown under the watchful eye of local family farmers whose livelihood depends upon the product and its quality. The food has superior taste and in many cases superior nutritional value
  • Support of the Local Community - because these farmers and producers live in our local community their economic success benefits our area economy and stabilizes the erosion of small family farms by large corporations. Their money stays in our community and helps it prosper.
  • Grown in the United States - each of these products are good old fashioned food grown in the United States of America.

Hen House is part of a local company that has been doing business in this market for over 85 years. We understand how difficult it is to be a success over time in this market place. We identify with the struggles of local companies to survive and find this partnership supports our values of providing the very highest quality fresh products available to our customers, supports the health and vitality of entrepreneurial family farmers, and the overall health of the local economy.

We intend to promote through advertising, signage, product knowledge, and display in our stores the items that meet the requirements of the Buy Fresh/Buy Local Campaign. We hope our customers come to enjoy and seek out these high quality items.
