An investigation done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that some consumers are buying prescription medications online from foreign countries.  The FDA is strongly warning consumers to be wary of internet drug sellers due to several safety concerns.

The reason for the FDA's strong warning against purchasing prescriptions online is due to the dangers of this practice.  The investigation found that medications bought online have been found to contain

toxins, have labels that were illegible, did not contain the correct amount of drug, or were not the correct drug.  Some medications that that were bought online require physician monitoring such as the drug Coumadin®, a blood thinner.  Without that physician monitoring, taking medications like Coumadin® is extremely dangerous.

Websites that sell medications are not licensed pharmacies.  It is important that you only take medicine prescribed by your doctor.  For

more information regarding buying prescriptions online, you can visit the FDA's website at www.fda.gov/cder and click on "Consumer Education."
